Howdy all!!
Yes, it’s that time once again. YUP…they let me get ahold of the weekly email. SUCKERS!!!
I’m not sure if that was a good idea on their part but it’s TOO LATE.
Lift Ticket Issues/Policy
We all (both Lift ops and Ski School) have been working hard to make sure our guests have a seamless lesson experience when they hit the slopes. If there is an issue please follow the lift attendants directions as well as give them the First and Last Name of the Student as well as Adult/CLC/Programs, etc.
This also means that all the lift attendants will be letting all our guests who are with an instructor in a lesson through the gate regardless if they have a working lift pass or not. That being said…we NEED to verify before we head out in our lessons that each student has their lift ticket on them before we make it to the chairlift. It look like Sun on Sunday so if we take our jackets off before the lesson, let’s make sure that we are putting our passes back on our person before we head out.
South Side Pass. Some students will only have a South Side Lift accessible lift ticket on them. This means they will only be able to load Ballroom Carpet, Buttercup, Easy Rider, Daisy and Vista chairlifts. FYI…The Lift attendants WILL NOT let the guest load under this circumstance so it would be a good question to ask our students well before we make it to Mount Hood Express and get turned away because our student only has the South Side pass.
Children’s Learning Center
CLC Meeting Times
8:30-8:45 Volunteer Based Training This Training will touch upon Terrain Based Learning for all those who are scheduled for the CLC.
8:45 Compulsory Paid Meeting/Huddle In this Training/Huddle we will be training/touching upon what is needed and expected when one is scheduled to the CLC. We will be talking over the Check-in procedures and boot fitting at those crucial times on busy weekends when all those happy guests are checking in their wee one’s.
Please let us all remember that Children’s Lessons are the backbone of our ski school so we need to make sure that everyone is doing our part and help out especially at check in time. Also we need to remember about having a proper attitude with our guest’s, especially with the Kiddies. I always try and touch upon the fact that in all of my Lessons that this day is very special for each of our guests and they chose to spend it up here with us. So let’s all do our part and provide the best possible experience that we possibly can. This starts with our attitude and the way we present ourselves to our guests.
Programs
7:45 SnoBlaster meeting in the SnoBlaster room. Avie could use some help in the Mornings getting our kids helmets and getting booted up as well as helping clean up and return equipment back to Avie to be used the next day or returned to Rentals on Sunday. Thanks so much in advance for all your hard work with SnoBlasters!!
8:45 Volunteer based Trailblazer/College/High School Huddle On-Snow. Jeremy has some good topics to cover in this meeting so we can be prepared for the remaining weeks of Programs.
8:45 Adult Volunteer based Huddle On-Snow. Sue will have some wonderful teaching tips and tricks as well as other information to help each of us as we help our guests strive to perfection with their skiing or riding!!
Safety
A Short Word or 2 from Sue
Lift lines are a great place to talk over the CRAMPON points of the safety code, or SMART STYLE, since we often spend some time in line. Please be sure to use the ski school lines at Buttercup and not the general lines or the Private Lesson opening unless you are in a private lesson. Always be patient in the line, as it models that for our students. A smile for the lift operator goes a long way, a grumbling instructor is the last thing they need.
Safety issues, we have had 3 instructor injuries this week, on easy terrain, so beware the blue run blues. There are lots of things out there that can catch edges, so keep thinking about how to keep yourself and your class as safe as possible. Eyes in the back of your head would be helpful J. If you can’t get those, remember to keep ears open and look around often. We also would like to document those “yikes” we see each day, so talk to your supervisor if you run into one.
Let’s also be aware we will have lots of events going on this weekend so let’s all do our best and make smart choices in regards to class handling and stopping with our groups on the hill.

A word from the Amazing Jeremy Riss
Hey Guys, Here are some Positive Ski School Comments so keep up the awesomeness!! Yes, it is a word!
I did lessons before for kids. I got the lift tickets and ski lesson ticket all together when I paid at ski school. It might have been my fault, this time I did not get both at ski school and I had to go get lift tickets at other place. It is helpful to get it all together when you are trying rush around to pay for lesson and get kids ski rentals. the people at lessons and rental helped get through quickly and we got to lesson early. thanks
Jay is a great instructor-I learned a lot.
Jeremy dirk did a fantastic couple of lessons with my son. He had a great time and learned a lot. Great job
Great teachers for my son: Kerri (last week) and Leslie (yesterday )
My wife and son took lessons with Daryl and said he was fantastic.
Instructor, Sammai was exceptionally patient and tailored the experience to my specific needs. Very impressive attitude and ethic.
Ryan was our snowboard instructor and he was very professional/friendly. For us being beginners I felt he did a great job reading the situation and adjusting the lesson pertaining to our skills.
Excellent experience with the SnoBlasters program. Above and beyond my expectations!
Huge thanks to Mark Fischer and Jeremy Riss for welcoming back an old time. I would also like to make sure Kastner knows that Courtney down in Skier/Guest Services gets a nod for putting up with me. Also, your lift peopler were super friendly, and the park was groomed to perfect. Great little Friday ski escape from work day.
I had a great lesson with Brendan. It was my first time skiing and he made me believe I could do it. The lesson was a good blend of personalized guidance and hands-off “practice until you get it”.
Andre is an excellent instructor! I had a problem with my rented boots and the staff was very helpful in finding a solution..
I had Ryan as a snowboard instructor and he was super helpful and really nice! He made me very comfortable since this was my first time! The rental people were super helpful and friendly! Also super attentive to our needs!
My lesson teacher, Mike was incredibly awesome, and very helpful.
Cheri Roulet is an *AMAZING* instructor and should be paid 3x whatever she’s making now. You need to start updating the lodge facilities. Faster, better Wifi. Start building mountain biking facilities NOW because snow sports won’t be around much longer.
Stu Fadsmen was my ski instructor . He is amazing and very patience and guided and reprimand my mistakes ! Can’t ask for a better instructor !
Great ski instructor . Love the facility .
friendly snowboarding instructor, ease of use of facilities
Great Instructors and rentals and well organized
The lesson I received from Greg DeHaven. He was so great and helped me so much! He is the reason I gave a 10.
Kids were in ski school and they had a blast. When the kids are having fun, we’re having fun.
We had a humble experience and our snowboard instructor Ryan was very friendly and helpful during our lesson.
Great deal on lessons
Snowboarding instructor (Rachael) and her shadow (Tim) were awesome!
