Hello MLC Instructors,
As much as we use technology to our benefit in this day and age, I found that a low tech approach was the most effective way for me to get my first shot, last night at 7:30pm. I had signed up using the information I shared in the email below, however I was then instructed to:
JUST CALL 211 – THE COVID-19 INFO LINE
After dialing and following the prompts to enter my zip code, then the next prompt for “Covid-19 info (press 0)”, I was connected to a real human! She put me on hold while she looked for available vaccines within a 25 mile radius of my zip code. She gave me the names of the locations that had the various vaccine options (Moderna, Pfizer, J&J) and told me to call to see if that had any extra doses that might be able to administered before closing. These extra doses are due to some people making multiple appointments at different locations, then not showing up for their appointment
The locations with the vaccine doses would rather have these in the arm of someone that wants a shot than being thrown out.
So, make the phone call, be available on short notice in the evening to get to the location that has a vaccine dose before they close. You need to get the shot at a minimum of 30 minutes before the location closes, as you need to fill out some paperwork, get the shot, then wait 15 minutes in the waiting room, in case you have any reaction (which is rare).
For me, I called The Dalles Safeway Pharmacy yesterday afternoon at 4:45pm. They said to check with them at 6:45pm to see if they had any extras. I called at 6:45pm and was instructed to come on in for a Moderna first dose shot. When I got there, they did not ask for any ID or insurance, and the vaccine was totally free.
Hope this helps you get your vaccination should you wish to receive one.
Yours in snowsports,
Tyler
