Hi Super Team,

I wanted to send out a few updates for this week coming up.  I’ll start with what’s in all of our minds:

Mark Fischer Update

I talked with Mark today and I wanted to share with you the update on Mark Fischer.  Mark is in good spirits and feeling much better.  The tube in his lung will most likely be removed today and he will have to be in the hospital for a few more days for observation, but he seems to be healing up nicely and the infection in his lungs seems to be under control.

Let’s keep Mark in our thoughts and thank you for all your patience with us while we try to fill his big shoes.

New Supervisor

As our Ski and Snowboard school continues to grow and we continue to have more and more guests taking lessons; Mark, Chris and I felt that we needed some additional support to cover all the areas that were needed.  So we made a decision to add one more person to our Supervisor Team.

We wanted to let everyone know that we have hired Rachel Jones to be our newest Ski and Snowboard School Supervisor.  Rachel has been with Meadows for quite a few years and has been the lead in SnoBlasters for the past 2 seasons.  She has been a huge asset to Ski and Snowboard School as well as Guest Services and everything in between.

She will still be in charge of SnoBlasters on the weekends and helping support Tracy with Programs, but you will also be seeing her in the CLC on Wednesdays and Thursdays and helping out in other ways within our Department.

We are very excited having Rachel join our Supervisor Team, so please help us make her feel welcome in her new position.

Warm Springs

We have another great teaching opportunity coming up this Monday, February 1st.  Warm Springs will be coming up and taking lessons with us. We are in need of 7 or 8 more instructors.  If you are able to join us please let myself, Tracy or Sue know and we will see you on Monday.

HPC

Due to the high guest volume on weekends and the limited number of Demo Skis and snowboards, the High Performance Center has asked that employees try not to Demo gear on Saturdays and Sundays. If the weekend is the only day available to demo, please be prepared to pay full price. Demo equipment discounts are not available on weekends, holidays or other peak periods.  Midweek is a much better time to try out Demo gear with much less people on the hill and you will get your discount of 20%.

Also, because of the high volume of tunes and waxes that have been ordered, the wait time is much longer than it has been in the past seasons.  The guys are tuning as fast as they can but please be prepared to wait as long as 3 days or more, depending on how many tunes are in front of you.  They thank you for your patience in advance.

And now a word from our Fearless Leader: Jeremy Riss!

One more weekend left of January programs, a big thank you to everyone for all your efforts to get us this far it has been a busy exciting season. We hope everyone is having a great time in their jobs and getting out for some skiing and riding as much as possible. Here are a few updates from around the company.

Employee Experience Score

We continue to hover right around 8.1 for the season and that was our score on the last rating period ending Jan 20th. It isn’t a bad score especially given the volume of business we have seen but as we come into the end of January we should all be feeling pretty good about knowing our jobs and how to make the extra effort to engage our guests. Overall we are receiving a lot of 9’s and 10’s and there are just a few low scores that are dragging down our average. Focusing on making the extra effort with guests who might be frustrated is what it will take to move the needle. Remember a guest who is upset about something is our biggest opportunity to either create a promoter of Mt. Hood Meadows or a detractor depending on our ability to connect with them and help move them towards a positive outcome. Thanks everyone for your extra efforts to serve our guests.

Employee Mountain Exchange Program

Did you know, as an employee you can visit and ride at most Pacific North West resorts for free? It’s called the Mountain Exchange Program and here is how it works:

  • Where can I go? To a resort on the exchange list, you can see the list in Human Resources.
  • How do I go? Request an Exchange Letter from Human Resources. Be sure to have the resort and visit date decided before you make your request. Because we can only send a limited amount of employees per day to each resort, we won’t hold spots for ‘maybes.’
Please also respect Human Resource office hours. We are open between 7:45 am and 3:30 pm. If you can’t make it in in time before we close, call us and pick up your letter at a later date.
  • What is an Exchange Letter? How does that differ from a Letter of Introduction?
    • An Exchange Letter is the physical paper Human Resources prints, signs and gives to you. This letter reserves your spot in the exchange and is used for resorts listed on the exchange.
    • A Letter of Introduction is for visiting a resort outside of our exchange network. You can request a letter from Human Resources or your Manager. With this letter, you can potentially get a free or discounted lift ticket this way, but it depends on the resort and their policies.
  • What do I do once I get to the resort? Show your original letter and your employee ID/Pass to the ticket booth. As per the exchange rules, resorts won’t accept faxes, e-mails, photo copies or word of mouth; you must show the original letter and your employee ID together to get your complimentary ticket.

Keep in mind that while you are enjoying a day as an exchange employee, you are representing Mt. Hood Meadows. Be courteous to the employees serving you and follow Your Responsibility Code while skiing and riding.

  • Are there any restrictions to the exchange program? Yes. You can obtain a letter for two days, per week, per resort. For most resorts, we can only send four employees per day. The furthest into the future you can request a letter is two weeks.
  •  I have more questions! Awesome, feel free to visit us in Human Resources or Call us, we’d be happy to help!

Cooper Spur

Remember employees and dependents that earn free passes at Mt. Hood Meadows also earn free season passes at Cooper Spur. Cooper is now open for night skiing Friday nights until 8pm, if you haven’t skied at Cooper yet get some friends together and check it out this Friday night.

Have a great week everyone and we hope everyone gets a couple much needed days off this week.
