Hello amazing MLC instructors!

“Those who have long enjoyed such privileges as we enjoy forget in time that men [and women] have died to win them.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

It’s Memorial Day Weekend and I hope this message finds you all good health. I can’t believe it’s only been just over 3 weeks since we finished up the 2021-22 season! The weather at the mountain has been more winter-like than Spring-like, and we are full steam ahead with summer operations preparations. I know some of you have extended your season at Timberline and others have shifted gears towards non-snow related activities. In this update …

Locker Clean-out Information

Many of you have reached out to me individually about accessing the lodge to clean out your locker. Thankfully most of you took care of this on or before the Team Member Appreciation Day on May 6, per our request, however if you did not clean out your locker by then, it’s ok. I know the HR Team has communicated some of this information possibly via Dayforce, however hearing it again from the MLC might be helpful.

Here are some things to know:

  1. On May 10, the MLC Manager and Supervisor Team went through all lockers and returned any uniform items on your behalf, so don’t stress out about returning your uniform items left in your locker – we did this for you
  2. Any personal items found in your locker were left where they were.
  3. From now until June 24, the parking lot and main lodge are open for authorized personnel (that’s you), to come retrieve your personal belongings from your locker, Monday – Friday from 8am to 5pm
    1. The parking lot and main lodge are closed and locked on the weekend
    2. If you need to come on a weekend, you may do so by contacting DPS ahead of time by sending an email message to dps@skihood.com with the preferred date and arrival time
    3. You may also attempt to reach DPS by calling 503-337-2222 ext. 1318, on weekends however please keep in mind that they are doing their rounds and may not be able to respond to your request immediately, depending on where they are on the mountain and what rounds they are conducting – see below.

                                                    i.     You may not realize this, but Mt. Hood Meadows has 24/7/365 security to protect our facilities from theft, fire, weather, etc.

ii.     The DPS team does 3 to 4 rounds each shift (day and night), checking all our facilities for leaks, smell of smoke indoors, break ins, power outages, fire watch during the summer and they conduct freshwater tests on the reservoir, check that the backup generators are functional, among other things.

    1. It should have gone without saying, but please do not attempt to dismantle, disassemble, cut the lock, etc. – any of the gates to any of the parking lots – as mentioned above DPS is on-site 24/7/365

  1. Beginning on June 24, the mountain will be open Thursday – Monday, so there will be no need to make an appointment with DPS to access the lodge on the weekends to clean out your locker
  2. There is no rush to get your personal items, however we are not responsible for any left behind items, whether left in your locker or elsewhere, so it is best to come retrieve them before too long

Why can’t I leave equipment in my locker for the summer?

There are multiple reasons, but here are a few: we may need to shuffle locks and lockers for security purposes and now you don’t know your combo; facilities may need to replace or remove a section of lockers; some MLC lockers might get reassigned to another department; you don’t like the locker you are in and want to be relocated; while you were planning to come back next season, something in your life has changed and you’re not coming back after all; you won the lottery and don’t care that your stuff is at the mountain and now we have to deal with it; we thought you didn’t want those old yellow and black Scott World Cup poles you left in your locker so we donated them; that breakfast burrito you left in your person jacket is starting to stink and we had to fumigate your locker and dispose of your jacket. If you’ve made it this far, I’m sure you can think of a few other reasons.

$75,000 in Unreturned Uniform Items “left at home”

I have an extensive list of MLC team members with unreturned uniform items – and I’ll be reaching out to you individually. That said, there are probably people not on my list with uniform items still checked out. As a convenience to you, we have been allowing team members to take their uniforms home to reduce indoor congestion and potential exposure to Covid-19. Many uniform items are “at home” which amounts to close to $75,000 in “unreturned” uniform items. Please check your car or home for any Mt. Hood Meadows uniform items.

  1. If you have any uniform items at home, please bring them to the mountain when you come to clean out your locker – see above
  2. You may also mail or ship them to: Mt. Hood Meadows, 14040 Hwy 35, PO Box 470, Mt. Hood, OR 97041
  3. As a convenience, if you live in the Hood River area, you can drop any uniform items at my home and I’ll take them to the mountain for you – contact me directly if this is you!
  4. Team members with unreturned uniform items will be billed for those lost items up to $270 for the outer shell, $175 for pants, $105 for the mid-layer, etc.
  5. Team members with unreturned uniform items may also be a conditional rehire or ineligible for rehire
  6. If you’re planning to just buy a pass next year, your unreturned uniform item will be added to your “tab”

Daycare is Open for Summer 2022!

Mt. Hood Meadows is one of the only resorts in the nation to offer state-certified childcare for infants as young as six weeks old. Daycare summer hours are 9 AM – 4 PM, Monday-Thursday all summer beginning May 9th, 2022! We offer extended care options from 7 AM and until 5 PM each day we are open. Our staff to child ratio is a minimum of one staff member for every four infants and toddlers up to 30 months, and one staff member for every ten children ages 30 months to 11 years.

Bring your little ones up this summer for a 4-day Preschool Camp or just drop in for the day and enjoy working remotely from our deck or in the lodge. You can even take a break to go on a hike or on a scenic chair lift ride (available Thursday – Monday). In whatever way you spend your day you’ll enjoy a view of Mt. Hood in the summer! See this: https://www.skihood.com/en/resort-services/daycare

Hope you have a great rest of your weekend and I look forward to seeing you on the mountain this summer!

Yours in snow sports,
