It’s snowing. And it’s that time of year when the deciduous trees haven’t dropped their leaves yet; this mixed with the white of one of the season’s first snow falls is magical. In this update – scroll down to your favorite topic!

Returning Instructors – Please Reapply!

So far 139 of you figured out how to reapply despite my best efforts – haha! In the last email I sent I shared links to the returning instructor application. However, it turns out that if you had a Dayforce account already, that those links don’t work for you! Ah the joys of learning all the ins and outs of Dayforce!

So, if you are planning to return this season and you have not applied yet, here’s what to do. Go to this URL: https://www.dayforcehcm.com/mydayforce/login.aspx and login on a web browser on your computer or device (you can’t use the app to re-apply). If you don’t know your password, try the password reset link. If you don’t get an email with the password reset instructions, then kindly send an email to me (or Jobs@Skihood.com) and request they please reset your password.

Once you are logged in, look for the “Careers” menu (on the left), then use the search bar and enter “returning team” which will bring up the Part Time and Full Time Returning Instructor applications. Click the “apply” link and you’re good to go! Phew – that was easy!

We are sharing the following statement with all applicants this season: Given the announcement by the current administration with regard to OSHA’s “Emergency Temporary Standard”, we are waiting to receive all the details on the vaccination and/or regular testing mandate. Given this, a Covid-19 vaccination may be required for this position. We encourage you to take action and/or consider this when applying.

Covid-19 Operational Updates

We are going to start out the season adhering to whatever mandates apply both nationally and regionally, so that our business operations can be in compliance. You’ve likely heard that resorts across the country will be requiring vaccinations for their employees (like Vail Resorts, Aspen/Snowmass, Arapahoe Basin, and many others).

At this time, from what I know at the time of this email, is that Mt. Hood Meadows is not requiring team members to be vaccinated against Covid-19, however those who are not fully vaccinated will require to be tested weekly.

Operationally, all indoor areas will require face coverings for team members and guests. Sit down food services will be available this season however at reduced capacities. A decision on face covering requirements for congested areas outside has not been finalized just yet. As for lessons, we plan to offer hot lunch and full day supervision for Youth Program Lessons like SnoBlasters as these programs do not start until January, and by mid-December we hope to have a better idea on the severity of the pandemic and the ability to proceed as planned. Daily Children’s Lessons will start out the season with restrictions similar to last season, with final details to follow.

Supervisor Team – Who’s Who this Season?

A rock star team of supervisors has been assembled for the 2021-22 season – here are the details: Shannon Malamphy is taking on the Program Lesson Supervisor position helping run the SnoBlaster and Mid-week Education program lessons. Jenn Wass has been hired as the Weekend Program Lesson Supervisor helping with Trail Blazers, College and Adult Camps. Elliott Miller will be taking on the role of Adult Daily Lesson Supervisor this season. Theresa Ritchie is back with us this season taking on the Night Lesson Supervisor role. Returning this season in the same role as last season are Kelsey Hadden-Leggett (Administrative Supervisor), Kelly Howle (Training Supervisor), Nolan Miler (Children’s Daily Lesson Supervisor), Jesse Eaton (Part Time Children’s Daily Lesson Supervisor) and Ryan Colesar (Freeride Team Head Coach). Josey, Peter and I stoked with this supervisor team that has been assembled to support all of you in your endeavors to enrich the lives of your team and guests this season!

We are in the process of hiring area leads as well as the new position of Snowboard Training Coordinator. Jenn Lockwood will be returning at the Alpine Training Coordinator and Emily Hearle will be returning as a Snowboard Trainer this season while supporting the Adaptive program with training as well.

On-boarding, Orientation, Schedule Submissions & Rehire Clinics

Once you re-apply, there will be some “on-boarding steps” that need to take place. Details on this process are coming soon, but please keep an eye on your email as once we start this process, there are time sensitive steps that must be completed on your end. Naturally, with the final goal being that you have your team member pass in hand and can go skiing and riding when you arrive on site!

Company Orientation will be part of the on-boarding process in Dayforce like last year. We will have MLC Department Orientation as a combination of E-Learning Courses on the Portal like last season as well as an informal / informational / not required MLC Zoom Orientation to share key information “live” so we can see one another and get stoked for the season.

Schedule submissions will be available in early November and you’ll need to choose your re-hire training dates as part of your schedule submission – this is to help get you signed up easily and so those dates don’t conflict with one of your scheduled days. Keep an eye out for communication in the coming weeks about submitting your season schedule.

New Locker Assignments – Everyone gets their own Locker!

With the creation of a Full Time Instructor locker room area we have gained more lockers such that each MLC Instructor will have their own locker! No more sharing lockers – whoop, whoop! The MLC supervisor office area is now in the basement of the South Lodge as are all the MLC lockers. During the schedule submission process you’ll be able to share your preferred locker neighbors and we’ll do our best to accommodate you! Yes Lee and Stu I know you want to be neighbors!

Work A Day Vouchers from Last Season

We’ve listened to your requests for usage of the Work A Day Vouchers from last season in the early part of this season. So in response to this request what we have come up with is a good alternative. If you had a Work A Day Voucher from last season that you were unable to use, and you have someone that you’d like to offer one to, we will be able to give you one of the MLC Manager’s VIP passes for the day. This will be effective between the first day of the season through December 17.

There will be a form on the MLC Instructor Portal for you to submit a reservation for a VIP Pass if you had a Work A Day Voucher from last season. This only applies to returning team members who have been hired for the 2021/22 season. We have limited VIP passes per day, so you’ll need to reserve these in advance and it is possible we might not be able to accommodate your request if all the VIP passes have been shared for the day you are requesting. Details about the reservation process are to follow.

We’re stoked to be able to share this with you and your friends/family during the first part of the season. Cross your fingers we open early and think snow! Keep in mind this does not apply to any of the “employee ticket vouchers” that you may have received during the holidays for being a returning team member. These VIP passes will only be available to those with unused “Work A Day Vouchers” from the 2020-21 season.

Last Call on Left-Behind Gear

When we moved out of the old “ski school lounge” in the basement of the North Lodge, there were a few items left behind (to say the least). If any of these items are yours, please claim them. Go here to see the stuff: https://mhm.snowproportal.com/updates/2020-21-stuff-left-behind

Early Season Level I Exams

There have been quite a few requests for an early season Level I exam. We are going to do it! As long as we have at least 3 people for each exam (alpine and/or snowboard) we can run the exam. Ideally these will happen in mid-December prior to the start of the winter break period. If you are interested in an early season Level I exam, please send an email to: Kelly.Howle@skihood.com

I’m am so looking forward to sliding on snow with you all this season and seeing you at the informal MLC Zoom Department Orientation next month!

See you then!

Tyler
