Hello MLC Instructors!
I hope this email message finds you well and you’re weathering this storm as best you can. Summer is in full swing and I suspect you’re enjoying some outdoor activities.
We are looking at various scenarios for modified lesson operations next season with multiple different approaches based on the pandemic including modified lesson sizes, meeting times, lesson lengths, locations, food services, lockers, etc. It is quite an undertaking to revise operations based on what we are facing, especially with it changing almost daily.
This week MLC Managers attended a Zoom meeting with other school directors from across the US and some from the Southern Hemisphere – which was interesting to hear their approach since they’re in operation now. However regardless of the pandemic and what operational model we’ll be using, we are anticipating demand to recreate at Mt. Hood Meadows will be high. We are also monitoring the situation on an on-going basis and adjusting as needed.
It was interesting to hear yesterday that the likely infection rate of Covid-19 is 10 times higher than reported. This was based on testing of blood samples. Here is one article referencing this information from the CDC if you are interested: https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/cdc-says-covid-19-cases-u-s-may-be-10-n1232134 .
Locker Access – Get Your Stuff – Make an Appointment
Many of you have been reaching out to me individually about getting items from your locker, especially with summer skiing and snowboarding happening at Timberline. Now that things are opening up please use the locker appointment form here: https://forms.skihood.com/locker-appointment/ to come get your stuff. Even if your visit is for a non-essential reason please make an appointment.
During the week of July 6-10 we will begin the process of returning your uniform items that are in your locker – if you haven’t already done so. This will be headed up by your management team members (Peter, Dane, myself, possibly Chris Olson). Personal belongings will be left your locker so there is no rush to come retrieve them. Any personal items found in uniform pockets will be placed in a zip lock bag and left in the locker. For documentation purposes, like we do for season locker holders, we will also take a photo of each person’s locker once it’s opened so we have a record of what was in there. This is not for you to email Peter to find the photo of your locker because you can’t find your favorite blue puffy and you think you might have left it in your locker – use the appointment form above and come get your stuff instead. Heck, if you don’t come get your stuff if you don’t need it, this might streamline locker assignments in the Fall!
Instructor Awards – Zoom Party or Just Tell Me!
Given the current situation with the pandemic it is unlikely we’ll be able to get together in any official way that would meet the safety guidelines we have in place at Mt. Hood Meadows. Some of you suggested we try to get together in July, but I just don’t think this is going to be possible. Missing the end of the season party (and after-party-party) was a bummer and is one of the highlights of the end of the season.
Given this, we could do a “Zoom Party” ( https://www.latimes.com/lifestyle/story/2020-04-20/zoom-party-tips-etiquette-virtual-hangout-ideas-fun-game-night ) and announce the 2019-2020 Instructor Award recipients. It would be fun to see everyone and celebrate these people – hopefully Corbin can be the emcee again like at the last awards party! Or if people are just too anxious to hear who the winners are, we can announce this via email. I can barely contain myself ….
Please reply to this email with the following:
- Yes, let’s do a Zoom Party -or-
- No, just tell me who won already
If we do a Zoom Party it would likely be on a Friday or Saturday evening around 6pm.We have a paid version of Zoom so we can go for longer and are not limited on the number of participants … it could be fun!
Looking forward to hearing from you about the awards and Zoom party option. Hope to “see” you soon.
Tyler
