Hello Learning Center Instructors!
Hope you’re having an awesome week. You should have been here today. Epic groomers, sunny skies, and the Alpenglow at sunset was amazing. I cannot believe the January Programs are already over and we kickoff February Programs this weekend. I hope you are all ready to enrich people’s lives (and yours) this weekend!

Sundays in February are BIG
We are looking very short handed on Sundays in February. If you are able to change your Saturday commitment days to Sundays in February we will count those shifts as 1.33 shifts, such that if you were to pick up 3 Sundays in February (that you are not already scheduled), then these would count for 4 shift commitments.
This is a great opportunity to make up days you have called in and get you back on track t meet our schedule commitment. If you are able to pick up Sundays or revise your schedule to move to Sundays, please use the Pickup Shift and Schedule Change Request form on the MHM Instructor Portal at this URL: https://mhm.snowproportal.com/schedule-change-requests
Newly Minted PSIA-AASI Level IIs!
Andy James, Jack Director, Ryan Colesar, Eric Callahan and Bruce Querbach all passed their Level II Exams at Mission Ridge Last week! It was an awesome showing and I’m super stoked for these top pros! Way to go!
Freeride Coach Lead Position
We have created a Freeride Team Lead position to help with the organization and communication of the Freeride Program with athletes, parents and coaches. This positon is mostly likely suited to a full time instructor who has been coaching with the Freeride Team athletes for a while, however this position is open to any Meadows Learning Center instructor team member who meets the criteria of the job description. If you think you might be interested in this position please apply at the link below. We are hoping to fill this position ASAP. See below for details and how to apply:

Checking in and checking your schedule
Please be sure to check your schedule when you arrive at the mountain and use the slider to “check in”, too. Recall that your employee ID is the last 4 of your social security number and the year you started. For those of you who started this year it would read: 123419 (for example). Please be sure to “Check In” by moving the slider below you name from left to right – this alerts us that you’ve made to the mountain and are checked in and ready to work. You can also check your schedule from home at this URL: https://mail.skihood.com/WebAdmin/
You should check in at the mountain as well as review your assignment that morning (or evening) as we some times make last minute changes based on those who have called in sick.
Calling in Sick, Late, Car Trouble, etc.
Please always use the Call In Form on the MHM Instructor Portal to call in. Sending an email to Tyler or Josey or a text message to a supervisor does not get the message to everyone. Plus, I’m pretty sure you don’t know what days a manager or supervisor has off, so if you send a message to someone who is “off” we may not know you’re sick until 2 days later. So, please use the proper call in procedure by using the Call In Form at this URL: https://mhm.snowproportal.com/calling-in-sick
Clinics and Training
The clinic and training calendar has been updated on the MHM Instructor Portal. Please check that website for upcoming paid, voluntary and certification training clinics. Please note, only clinics that say “(Paid)” in the title are paid clinics. Level I certification and many other evening clinics we schedule for your personal improvement – this is one of the benefits of being an instructor – you get to come to ski or snowboard improvement clinics to improve your personal skiing and riding as well as your teaching. All new and returning instructors may attend up to 6 hours of paid training during the season, but these must be “(Paid)” clinics.
Buttercup Fun Zone Banked Turns are AWESOME!
If you have not taken your class to the Buttercup Fun Zone Banked Turns – do it tomorrow or this weekend. There are 5 turns in there now, with Rollers on the way there. They are super good now and are much more gradual than last year. This is a good option for making the lesson fun and an adventure. You don’t need to go up Easy Rider to have tons of fun! Check out the video!
Alpine and Snowboard Level I Certification
There has been quite a bit of confusion around the process of getting ready for your Level I exam. We need a minimum of 3 people to be signed up 2 weeks in advance of the scheduled exam. We have had to reschedule the exams a few times already due to lack of signups. Please check the link below for all the details on what to do!

Team Member Appreciation Vouchers
A major change from last year is that each voucher is assigned to each team member, so each person is accountable for how they get used (not to be sold). Please pick up your lift ticket vouchers in the Day Care office. These are Open to Close tickets and are valued at as much as $109. Also, team members have “buddy passes” which are also available at huge discounts – around $39 for an open to close ticket for a friend.
Instructor Praise – Comments from Guests – You Rock!
- Ben Johnson was my ski instructor. He was very nice and knowledgeable about skiing. He was encouraging and gave good tips to my friends and me. I would definitely recommend him to others and take another lesson from him.
- I’d like to extend a special thank you to the instructor Kevin Williamson. I took a novice level group ski lesson with him, and it was a great experience. Learning to ski has been difficult for me, and I have always been the slowest to learn in my lessons. Kevin did a great job of teaching me the correct skills, and complimenting and praising me without sounding condescending. Thanks Kevin!
- I think my ski instructor’s name was Michael. He is from Indiana. He was very friendly, patient and helpful. He gave me tips that improved my technique and increased my confidence on the slopes
That’s it for now! See you tomorrow or this weekend!
