Hello all,
President’s Weekend was another Slam Dunk. Thank you all for all your hard work and anyone that picked up an extra shift to help out on another holiday weekend. We beat MLK’s lesson numbers by 97 guests with 461 kid’s lessons and 377 adult lessons (MLK was 438 kids, 303 adults) and even with 1,803 less skier visits than MLK weekend (21,400 vs 19,597). So thank you again everyone who worked this past weekend, Mark Fischer said it was the easiest President’s Weekend he’s had in a while and that is all thanks to your hard work!
Scheduling Needs
Sunday – We are looking a little short staffed on Sunday, February 26th. If anyone would like to pick up an extra shift day or night, please contact Hallie.Fall@skihood.com, Josey.Rice@skihood.com, or Mark.Fischer@skihood.com.
Monday and Wednesday Mid-Week Educational Programs –
Due to bad weather and the previous cancellations for Mid-Week Educational Programs will be extending their programs for 2 more weeks. If you signed up for this program, it would be great if you could continue to come for the remainder of the program.
Extras
Uniform and Lineup Expectations –
Please be in your full uniform ready to go at the specified lineup time. As our line-up is a paid activity, it is expected that you be there on time. A “full uniform” is your Green Parka or Spring Shell, Grey Pants, Name Tag in place, and with your equipment ready to go. An example of not being in uniform is switching out of you cover up coat, eating food, sipping on an employee coffee, running over to the other lineup area to get your equipment, etc. – this behavior makes it appear to our guests like we are not prepared and focused on them. We know time to get everything done can be tight but making a good first impression on guests that we are prepared to be focused on them at lineup time is important. Thank you for focusing on this, making it a priority and reminding your teammates.
On-duty in Public Spaces –
If you are on duty and in public spaces please be wearing an approved Mt. Hood Meadows uniform. Approved uniform pieces include your green parka, green shell or approved indoor piece each with a name tag. There have been interactions between guests and employees (who were on duty but not in uniform) that led to confusion and concern, especially with our department that works closely with children. It is important to be in uniform when taking kids to the bathroom or interacting with guests as being out of uniform during these activities can cause confusion.
Cover Up Jackets –
Switching out of your uniform piece between lineups can be a hassle I know. Some instructors opt to bring their own “cover up” jacket that fully covers the green parka or spring shell. A full cover up jacket is the only acceptable method of wearing your uniform while free skiing and riding. A vest or jersey that does not cover your entire uniform parka is not sufficient. If you need to find an appropriate cover up check out Amazon.com and search Light Weight Windbreaker for (men or women) you can get one shipped to you for about $10 to $15.
Ski Adjustments –
Just as a reminder, please do not adjust anyone’s skis rental or personal if you are not Tech Certified. If you are Tech certified through Mt Hood Meadows and Rossignol, then only rental gear is allowed to be adjusted. Any personal gear can be adjusted and tested in the HPC. Any adjustments should be made in the Tech Area (either Rentals or CLC) and the adjustment needs to be noted on the Guest’s Rental Form and signed by who adjusted the gear. This protects you from any liability issues if the guest should get injured on the hill. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact Josey.Rice@skihood.com.
Peak Days Arrival Time –
The Parking Lots have been filling up on the Weekends faster and faster every week. To alleviate your stress level and to give yourself time to be prepared for work, please aim to be in the parking lot no later than 8 am on the weekends.

· Stu was a great instructor and provided my girlfriend and I outstanding instruction on our first day skiing. after our morning lesson her recommended we try Green level. I enjoyed this part of the day most because we got to ride the lift and practice on a longer run. He showed us how to "make a window" on a fixed object while making S turns in the snow. This demonstration really helped make everything Click! Thank you!
· Elliot is LOVING learning to ski, and seemed to have even more fun than ever yesterday with Zachary Schwartz. Elliot really seemed to connect to him as a role model. Thank you!!
· I took the morning (first-timer) lesson with Tiegen, and the afternoon lesson with Stu. They each had different styles but I greatly enjoyed both. I could tell they each cared about my progress and they both helped me vastly improve throughout the day.
· Jesse was great and I felt like he was truly engaging with my daughter and the other kids in the class. He provided good feedback on where my daughter was in skill level. Thanks Jessie!
· I wanted to recognize an excellent employee, Douglas Bender was working in the ski school during our visit. He was facilitating both check-in and pick up. His patience, friendliness and hospitality to both children and parents was outstanding. In an area where both parents & kids can have anxiety, he had a calm and welcoming demeanor. He did a great job! Thank you 🙂
· Chris LaFrenz was awesome!!! Very patient, and excited to help my son learn. He was also very positive and gave lots of affirmation.
· Ali Hamerstadt was great at explaining everything. She was lighthearted and a lot of fun to work with.
