Hello MLC Instructors!

It has been an amazing week with tons of new snow, sunny days, great conditions and lots of smiling (mask covered) faces. This weekend we’ll have some nourishment at lunch time in the Program Lesson Room and in the Children’s Learning Center – veggie and non-veggie soup options. You may come here and indulge while supplies last but must eat in an approved area – not in any indoor public spaces, not in the program room and not anywhere that is not 6 feet from another person. Please choose to eat outside or in the Employee / Team Member break room in the North Lodge (door code is: 1919).

Carpooling Guidance – Things to Consider

With the number of COVID-19 cases increasing, this is not the best time to expand your exposure by driving other people in your car and if the number of people in your carpool is large, you are taking on an even bigger risk.  Additionally, if one carpool member becomes symptomatic, COVID positive or exposed, your entire carpool will be required to quarantine as carpool rides are close-contact exposure environments. In the month of December alone, the COVID Response Team has required the quarantine of multiple carpool groups due to exposures.

Not Feeling Well? Stay home. That simple, but please Call In Sick
If you are not feeling well (i.e. 100% feeling good), please do not come to the mountain, whether this is a work day or a free-ski/ride day. Don’t come – it’s ok. There will be another day to ski, ride, teach, etc. We want you and others to reduce the potential spread of Covid-19 and any other illnesses. The health and safety of our team, families and community depend on our individual behavior and actions.

You can call in sick using this link: https://mhm.snowproportal.com/calling-in-sick

Roving: When, Where, What?

If you are asked to “rove” this is to support your fellow instructors at Ballroom Carpet, Buttercup and Easy Rider. Roving does not take place on any other lifts or terrain unless you are specifically asked to do so. Rovers are the “heroes that save the day” – be that instructor that goes to get a lift ticket for a student, or corrects a miss-fitted ski, or works with one of the students for a run on Ballroom to help get them caught up.  By the way, don’t call it “Roaming” as the definition of roaming is: “move about or travel aimlessly or unsystematically, especially over a wide area.” This is NOT what you’re doing. You are roving which is, in MLC speak is: “traveling about with a purpose to assist others.”

Operation Green Coat

The MLC Team has been so appreciated when we help out in other areas – thank you! These “temp labor” hours count towards your teaching commitment hours, so take these assignments on knowing they are both paid and getting you closer to earning “Work A Day” vouchers for friends and family members – and count towards your teaching hour commitment. Also, if you are assigned a non-MLC duty that you’re not comfortable doing, please let your supervisor know. We do not want to put you in a situation that you’re not stoked and don’t feel comfortable doing. MLC Team Members have been greeting, helping in the boot room, doing maze control and mask reminders – you are all so awesome and the other departments really appreciate the support we’re providing! Thank you!

Pushing Through Gates – Don’t Do It

There have been reports of team members pushing through the gates at the lifts. Please DO NOT do this – it damages the gates and is very expensive to replace. If you or your student are stuck in the gate, please kindly and respectfully alert the lift attendant. Don’t duck under; don’t push through; just wait patiently.

70% Off Food Discount

Effective 1/18/2021, the meal discount was raised from 50% to 70% and this will last through Presidents’ Day. Please continue to be respectful to our Food & Beverage co-workers, who are also putting in a huge effort this season. Avoid peak times if you can, and keep good distance in the lines.

Mask Reminders (not mask patrol)

As a team member, you are empowered to remind any guest who is not complying with our policy in a kind, non-aggressive way. Some suggested ways are:

“Whoops, looks like your mask slipped down. Would you please also cover your nose? Thank you!”

“As a reminder, properly worn face coverings are required in this area. Please cover your nose too. Thank you!”

“For our resort to stay open we need everyone to wear face coverings in this area – thank you!”

When on Mask Reminder Duty you can also thank those who are wearing their face coverings properly, “Awesome! Thanks for covering your face properly!”

If any guest is not complying and being disrespectful or dismissive of your request you are obliged to alert the Lift Attendant to obtain the guest name from their scan through the gate, or have DPS get involved. We are very serious about compliance with our face covering protocols as this will allow us to stay open and reduce the potential spread of the virus.

Can I drink alcohol or smoke (anything) in my uniform? No, not ever.

Wait, you mean I cannot drink alcohol in the parking lot off duty in just my uniform pants? Nope. You mean I can’t put a piece of duct tape over the logo on my pants and drink a beer on the Sahale or South Lodge deck after work? Nope. You man I can’t turn my uniform coat inside out, while wearing my own pants and tailgate in the parking lot? Nope. What about grocery shopping in town in my uniform. Nope. Please take a moment to reflect on whether you have mistakenly done any of these things. We’re allowing you to wear your uniform home in an effort to reduce the amount of time you need to spend in the locker room as part of our Covid Response Operations Plans, as outlined in the E-Learning Course on the Instructor Portal – you can refer to this page (and other important pages and info in that course) here: https://mhm.snowproportal.com/courses/covid-19-operations/lessons/uniforms

80-hour Check In

With a team of around 350 instructors in all it’s a challenge for supervisors and managers to check in with you individually every 80 hours. Many of you may only have an 18 shift commitment so by the time you hit 80 hours, it’s near the end of your season. While the company-wide team member check in survey is great, and we’ve received lots of comments from the MLC team, we also realize maybe you’d like to share some more information specific to your role as an instructor. We love to hear from you and we want to make your time at Mt. Hood Meadows fun and enriching. We also want to improve the work life for all. If you’d like to share your comments and observations more frequently of when ideas come to mind, please use this link: https://mhm.snowproportal.com/current-staff/check-in-survey

Holiday Vouchers, Tips and Guest Satisfaction Surveys

There are still unclaimed tips in Josey’s office. There are still Holiday Lift Ticket Vouchers for returning team members also in Josey’s office. You should also stock your uniform pocket with Guest satisfaction Survey cards, your business cards and a tip envelope. See example below. By giving these to guests, you increase the chances of getting some great feedback from your clients, receiving a tip and winning the Guest Choice Award for the 2020-21 Season.

Looking forward to a great weekend! See you soon!
