Hello MHM Snow Pros!

Free stuff – Nachos – Spring Break – oh my! There is a ton of information in this email and there is something for everyone, so please read on! It’s our last weekend of night operations for the season, then we are open 7 days a week 9am to 4pm starting March 19 through April 22, with clinics offered regularly at 1:15pm, if you don’t get a lesson.

Weekend Night Help

The final weekend of night operations is upon us. We’d love for you to add Saturday Night to your schedule. It’s the last Toyota Learn to Ski & Ride Saturday Night – we are capped at 100 lessons and we expect to need about 10 Alpine instructors and 7 Snowboard instructors. If you can pick up Saturday night, and have already met your schedule commitment we can spiff you out. Want to know how, send Mark or me an email. Or just add a shift by clicking this link: https://mhm.snowproportal.com/schedule-change-requests

Mondays and Tuesdays Help

We have been short staffed on Mondays and Tuesdays lately. If you are full time instructor please check in with one of the supervisors or managers about switching from your other mid-week days to a Monday or Tuesday so you’ll get the hours you need and we’ll have the coverage for lessons our guests expect. If you are a part time instructor and can pick up a shift on a Monday or Tuesday, please add a shift by clicking this link: https://mhm.snowproportal.com/schedule-change-requests

OR & WA Spring Break Help

Oregon Spring Break starts on March 24 through April 1 and Washington Spring Break starts on March 31 through April 8. If you need to pick up some shifts to fulfill your schedule commitment please add 1, 2, 3 or more days using this link: https://mhm.snowproportal.com/schedule-change-requests . Add in the comments if you’re picking more days that the form allows you to choose.

Spring Break Kids Camps

If you can commit to being here for 3 days in a row during OR and/or WA Spring Break then signup to work the Spring Kids Camp dates. They are March 26-28 and April 2-4. Please use the link below to add these days and include in the comments that you want to work the Spring Kids Camp!  https://mhm.snowproportal.com/schedule-change-requests

5th Grade Ski & Ride Day Help

Mt. Hood Meadows provides free rentals plus ski and snowboard lessons to fifth graders! Pretty cool, huh? All they need to do is let us know they are coming and get up here. The dates right now are April 10th, 12th, 13th and 19th. This is such a fun lesson to teach because all the kids know each other and their skipping normal school to come to ski and snowboard school! Please signup to work one of these magical days. And you know if you start kids skiing or snowboarding before the age of 12 they are likely to ski and snowboard for the rest of their lives! Join us on these dates – sign up here: https://mhm.snowproportal.com/schedule-change-requests

Employee Appreciation Vouchers

Please stop by Day Care for your Employee Appreciation Vouchers. In your envelope you will find a lift ticket voucher and two equipment rental vouchers to give to a friend or family member. None of these vouchers are to be sold – that’s a big “no – no” , so share these with your friends and family. There is also a coupon for 40% of logo-wear from the sports shop. I just got a new hat “for free” by using my loyalty points and the 40% off coupon!

End of Nights Employee Appreciation Party

Tomorrow night, 3/15/2018 we will be having an employee appreciation party. Lifts will run, free rentals, free food in the Vertical complete with Nacho Bar, draft beer and wine ($3) and free soft drinks and hot chocolate. Buttercup and Mt Hood Express will re-open at 4:30pm and run until 6pm. There is a Snowshoe Tour meet at 4:15pm in rentals. Vertical bar opens at 4:30pm with food and drinks. Last call is at 6:45pm. 7pm employee busses depart. Come celebrate with us!

New Mini-Pipe at Ballroom Fun Zone – How do I use this?

If you’re not sure about how to use the new Mini-Pipe at the bottom of Ballroom Carpet then check out the video link below – it’s less than 5 minutes long. The purpose of the Mini-Pipe is for first glides from wall to wall across the fall line (not down the middle of the pipe). Other options include teaching how to side step up to the deck and even first turns. We’ve had some questions about how to use it, so check out the video links!

Comments from Guests about You All!

·         Unknown – Instructor for both kids were great! Kids had a great time and learned a lot.

·         Liam was very friendly and fun and seemed to know a lot. He had some good approaches to teaching.

·         Brandon provided an excellent ski lesson. He explained the concepts clearly, gave each of us specific feedback on our technique, and was warm, friendly, and supportive the entire time. He made sure our group was all together and frequently checked in with each of us to see how we felt about our experience and if any of us had a question. Brandon was also respectful and open in his demeanor and tone of voice. I am looking forward to taking more lessons and improving my skiing experience.

·         Scott Conklin was awesome! He was kind and patient and explained everything thoroughly and kept up with the entire group

·         Rachael and Katie were personable and knowledgeable. Perfect blend of instruction and fun. I learned a lot.

·         Katie and Rachel – I got a lot out of the women’s clinic yesterday. I wish there was another one scheduled for this season.

·         Ryan – We had a big group so our instructor worked with the four of us that were picking everything up quickly separately to help us advance while also focusing on the other people in the group separately to help us learn to the best of our abilities.

·         Brian Beardsley provided both a philosophical framework as well as a practical, skill-based framework for skiing. I appreciated both these complimentary approaches, and felt this elevated him from a ski instructor to a true expert coach. I also liked how he used drills on the groom that would be immediately applied to off-groom. This served to solidify the lesson of the drill.

·         I really enjoyed Greg DeHaven’s style of instruction and personality. Also, I’m 37 years old, and I’m surprised to say this, but I much preferred an instructor of Greg’s age!

Alpine & Snowboard – Level II & Level III – Exam Reminders – Written Exam due 30 days prior to on-snow exam!

The PSIA-NW Alpine and Snowboard exams are coming up! You must complete the written exam 30 days prior to the on-snow modules. Even if you’re on the fence about taking the on-snow modules, you may take the written any time and it’s “good for life”. Stevens Pass has the only Snowboard Level III exam coming up on March 31 – April 1, and Alex Pugliese is already signed up! Wish her luck! Alpine and Snowboard Level II exams are happening at Schweitzer on March 24-25, and Stevens Pass on March 31-April 1 and April 2-3, as well as the final exam of the season at Mt. Hood Meadows on April 14-15. Check here for details: https://www.psia-nw.org/events/

See you this weekend!

Tyler
