Hello MLC Instructor Team!
It’s already Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday weekend! This is an “all hands-on deck” weekend which means if you are scheduled, please show up (unless you’re sick). Weather and snow conditions will be winterlike so please leave early or take the employee transportation.
I would plan to be in the main parking lot by no later than 7:30AM if you are driving. Last Saturday I arrived at 6:43AM and was parked adjacent to the Medical Center – so use that at some perspective. This is the second week of Program Lessons, and we expect a big rush during check-in time because all the buses will be arriving on-time (we hope).
Daily lessons are busy. Private lessons are busy. Program lessons are full. The Freeride Team is full – so please come ready to enrich the lives of our guests and yourselves by sharing your passion for snowsports with all who are here!

Extra Help on Saturday Night
Given the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, we need a few more alpine and snowboard instructors during the day and particularly at night. If you can join us tomorrow night, please reply all to this email and we’ll add you to the teaching roster for tomorrow night (and day) if you are available. If you add tomorrow nightwe will add a voucher for an open to close lift ticket to your profile in our resort sales system (called a Work a Day Voucher), which you can share with a friend of family member. Adaptive Lessons earn $2 more per hour
We need help with our Adaptive lesson guests. We have Northwest Association of Blind Athletes (NWABA) and Washington State School for the Blind (WSSB) who are coming for lessons. NWABA starts coming on Wednesday Night beginning January 18 and WSSB will be coming on select evenings in February (dates TBA). We offer individual Adaptive lessons just about every day of the week, too. If you want to teach Adaptive lessons and get the $2/hour pay bump, you’ll want to attend Adaptive specific training. There are some Adaptive training clinics on the calendar to help you earn your $2 more per hour! End of Pay Period – Get your timesheets in!
Today is the end of the pay period which means you need to complete your timesheets by midnight Saturday night. This is for the pay period from December 31, 2022 through 1/13/2023. If you need help with this, please reach out to a fellow instructor, a Lead, a Supervisor or a Manager. We want you to be paid on-time and accurately. Clinics and Training – Perks of the job!
I always tell people, if you want to get good at skiing or snowboarding, come teach it for a winter, or two or five – which means teaching lessons and coming to instructor clinics in the evenings or to an “Early Load Clinic.” There are a ton of great clinic to attend, whether you are interested in Freestyle, Kids, Certification or just want to ski and ride with some other instructors. About Rose: The kids ended up with Rose as their instructor and learned SO MUCH in one lesson, they felt great and so excited.
About Kent and Tom: My son is part of the Snow Blasters program. Kent and Tom were great! My son had a great time and can’t wait for his next session.
About Gabe: Gabe was great. Very happy w the whole experience.
About Kent: Mia and us totally enjoyed Coach “K” afternoon session. What’s amazing about coach K is his unique ability to keep an 5 year old whole afternoon excited and happy about learning skiing. As parent we also loved chatting with Coach K alone the way learning many things about teaching kids skiing. It was an amazing experience. Will defnitly find time to come back again.
About Steve P: My 14-year-old child has skied since they were 2, but wanted to try snowboarding this year. We decided on a night lesson because it is more affordable. Steve was AWESOME. Anina ended up having a private lesson with him and not only did he teach her everything she needs to know to get out there on her own, he was just the warmest, kindest, most comfortable instructor. My daughter can be a little reserved, but not last night. She came back thrilled (!!!), confident, and talked about how awesome this lesson was the entire way back to Portland. I feel like beginner lessons can be sort of hit or miss, but this one was 1000% spot on and exactly what we were hoping for. Thank you, Steve! Thank you, Meadows! We love you both!
About the Chill Foundation Visit(s):
Wednesday night – If you didn’t hear yet, last night was a long one. The bus got stuck on way up and we only got to Meadows at 8:30. It could have been a miserable night, but Matt and the instructor team 100% saved the day. I can not say thank you enough to all of the instructors for gearing back up and hopping in and really turning the night around for our young people. I’m so grateful and appreciative that I get to work with such great people. Thank you Meadows!
Thursday night – Yes! Last night went super smoothly– best first night I’ve ever had with Chill. We had so much time on hill and the conditions were soft and slow. I really appreciate y’all always looking out for us. I’ve said it before, but Chill needs to give Meadows some kind of “Best Partner Mountain” award.
