Hello MLC Instructors!

Astronomical spring will officially begin at the vernal equinox, which will occur at 2:37 a.m. on March 20, 2021. This is the moment when the sun crosses the celestial equator in a northerly direction, marking the prime meridian of right ascension, or the moment in the year when the Sun is exactly above the Equator and day and night are of equal length. It’s also when the skiing is really good on Mt. Hood and lots of people come to enjoy our mountain home. That said …

Oregon Spring Break – We need you next week

You may have been contacted already if you were already signed up to teach on one or more days of the Oregon Spring Break Camp which is Monday – Wednesday March 22-24. With the amazing snow fall and great Spring weather we are already looking quite busy! There are around 93 kids, 40 adults and 20 Freeride kids signed up. The Mid-week Pass Package lesson reservations are also looking busy already, so even if you can’t work all 3 days, if you can pick up one or more days, this would be super helpful!

1.)    If you are able to work all 3 of these days: March 22-24, please reply all to this email and let us know, “I can work all three days of camp!” – and we’ll add you to the schedule

2.)    If you can only work 1 or 2 of these days, please reply all to this email and let us know, “I can work _(date)___, but not all 3 days.” – and we’ll add you to the schedule on that date.

3.) If you can work Thursday or Friday March 25th or 26th, please let us know. We’ll add you to the roster and you’ll earn a Work a Day Voucher

If you are full time instructor and can adjust your regular days on/off so that you can work the camp, we’ll add a “Work a Day Voucher” for each day you adjust. Plus this is guaranteed work – morning and afternoon teaching hours with the same students for 3 days in a row! So rewarding. If you are a part time instructor and can add these days, which are in addition to your regular scheduled days, we’ll add a Work a Day Voucher for every day you add on March 22-26.  If you want to trade a future schedule commitment day, for one of the camp days, we can do this, too. You’ll be achieving those teaching hours, adding more stoke, getting more pay and you’ll be enriching the lives of your guests, self and team.

We expect many instructors will be taking us up on this offer, so those that can let us know the soonest will reserve a teaching spot on these days. What’s a ‘Work a Day Voucher” you say? Well, this is up to a $129 value, 7 hour lift ticket for you to GIVE to a family member or friend which is good anytime between now and the end of the season – no reservation required.

Rental and Lift Ops Help

The MLC Operation Green Coat take over has been awesome. You’ve been helping all over the mountain – thank you! If you are assigned to help at Rentals in the morning – like at the boot bridge, or helmet fitting, or handing out equipment – please stay there and do NOT come to the morning huddle or line-up. We know you’re there helping out and when your assigned lesson arrives we’ll pull you from rentals and get you on the snow. It’s super important to stay helping out in rentals in the mornings, as this ensures those guests who are getting rentals make it to their lesson on time. If you’re helping at Lift Ops, please check in with the Lift Ops team members before leaving for your lunch break. Let them know how long you can stay and help and when you need to leave. Don’t just walk off – please let them know. As you know having an orderly maze is so helpful, so when it’s time for them to take over, they can get in place. Thank you!

Where are face-coverings required? Slight Update … and Ballroom Carpet

This is NOT new info: face covering are required in the parking lot, in the lodges, in the lift lines, in the lesson meeting areas and anywhere you cannot maintain 6 feet of physical distance from others – due to lesson and on-hill volume of people in the base area at the Ballroom Carpet, now the BALLROOM CARPET area is included in these areas of face covering requirements.

Commitment, Teaching Hours and Work a Day Vouchers

Unfortunately the self-report on teaching hours is still not working. If you think you’ve met your shift commitment please email Kelcey to run a quick report on your shifts worked and total teaching hours. If you’ve met the teaching hour goal (which included hours helping other departments) – thank you! If you’ve met the high achiever status for your schedule commitment, then you’ve earned some Work A Day Vouchers – so awesome! Work a Day Vouchers are NOT automatically added to your profile – you need to ask for them. We run a report, check your shift commitment level, teaching hours, then manually add these. They may be redeemed until the end of this season at the Sahale sales counter. Just ask one of the sales team – let them know you’d like to, “Redeem a Work a Day Voucher.” They’ll look it up and issue you ticket which is up to a $129 value.

Locker and Uniforms

If you have finished you’re commitment please turn in your uniform to the laundry. If you planning to teach 5 more days beyond your commitment – thank you! – and please keep your uniform. If you **might** pick up a shift in the odd chance we need help and you’re available, please turn in your uniform to laundry on your “last scheduled day”. If you pick up an additional shift – thank you ! – you can check out a uniform for that day. You may continue to use your locker and pass for the remainder of the season. If you’re DONE-DONE – like you’re moving away, please let us know this too, as there is additional steps to closing our your employee profile for the season.

Lift Riding Reminders – Bars, People and Maze Etiquette

Don’t forget: 1) Ideally two people per chair maximum in lessons on a quad lift; 2.) non-lesson guests are not permitting to join you on the lift – when asked if someone may join you, you may say, “That’s against our protocols. Sorry.” 3.) Please lower the restraining bar / foot rest for all lessons – youth and adult – every time – thank you! 4.) When waiting patiently in line, let the maze control person know how many chairs your class needs, “Hi, we’ve got 3 chairs worth in my lesson whenever you’re ready for us. Thank you.”

Tailgating is awesome, but …

Spring will have sprung by this time tomorrow – but the weather still looks winter-like. When the time comes for an awesome afternoon, sunny, tailgating session, I know you’ll be there. Until we are all vaccinated, please continue to maintain our protocols of staying 6 feet apart, wearing your face covering when not taking a sip. These are the rules for team members and guests in the parking lot.

Adrian

Thank you Adrian for helping me remember how to ski. I enjoyed the lesson and practicing more afterwards. Btw I left a tip in one of the little envelopes which I really hope gets to you. Take care!

Pranay

Nothing really. Everything was smooth and well explained. We got rentals and lessons as beginners.

Pranay

Pranay was professional and very knowledgable. He took time to explain the basics of skiing before we started. He did a great job of layering the information in relevant bits and kept building on stuff throughout the day. Gave us plenty of time to practice each skill. As brand new skiers, we left our first day of lessons having learned turns, stops- which far exceeded our expectations. We will be going back for more lessons.

Brett

Thank you for showing me different kinds of trails and skiing – especially those with the bumps and dips and through the trees. That was a lot of fun and added variety to the lesson.

Loren LaFleur

Personable and easy to listen to !

Adrian

Parking. Almost missed my lesson because all lots were “full” despute there being plenty of spaces available.

Zdnek Zumr

None – it was terrific!

Matthew T Johnson

Matt Johnson is a very professional instructor. Step by step evaluated our skills and needs and progressed the lesson accordingly. The lesson was very informative and an excellent practice. KUDOS to Matt!

Loren Lafleur

Nothing – I thought everything was great!

Maria & Amber

I really appreciate how kind and supportive the staff was. They have made it a great learning experience. Tell them Hudson says a big Thank You!!

Joey

I thought the whole process was very smooth – from gear rental to meeting with lesson group, etc. Good logistics and a fun experience overall.

Joey

Instructor was very friendly, attentive and supportive. Thanks, Joey!

Pranay

This was our first time skiing. Pranay was very nice and patient with us. He was encouraging and took time to explain and taught us each aspect of skiing. After each try, he would give us feedback and chance to improve. By the completion of our lessons, we were able to ski without falling, able to make turns, slow down as well as stop. We are very appreciative our our instructor Pranay. We will be back to Meadows for more skiing lessons!

Kari

Henry had an amazing time and loved his instructor, we’ll be back for more lessons soon!

Mason

I would go seek out our instructor again! He was friendly fun and all around awesome!

Walker

Walker was excellent & my daughter Nami really enjoyed working with him! He focused with her on more advanced freestyle technique, riding switch, carving, and tackling more difficult runs. He provided us both with excellent feedback, contact info for MHM Free Ride team, and praised Nami’s ability. This was her first lesson of the season & we were very appreciative of being linked up with Walker. He is a true asset to your snowboarding instruction team! We hope to work with him again!

Eli and Debby?

Eli was so nice to my boys, they absolutely loved skiing and the way he spoke to them was phenomenal. My daughter’s teacher whose name I cannot remember went above and beyond and got us some goggles to borrow on a very sunny day. Thankyou!

Michelle

Michelle is incredible. My daughter has progressed by an incredible amount this year and it is almost entirely because of her.

Tommy Price

Tommy was an excellent instructor. He gave me great feedback as I tried to implement changes to my stance and form. I very definitely learned a lot and enjoyed the lesson.

Jamie Fannin

The instructor was fantastic and will use him again. Great with kids!

Jamie Finnan

Jamie is amazing, he sees his time with the child as an opportunity to elevate skill level and to connect and make the whole experience worthwhile. His knowledge of how small humans think and how their bodies work makes him a uniquely skilled and qualified instructor. And he is ALWAYS friendly, ready to go, completely positive and communicative.

Rocky

Rocky was an excellent instructor working with some really specific issues that I was focusing on. He has a genuine talent for teaching. I highly recommend him for moderate to advanced skill levels.

Immo

Immo was patient, kind and supportive. I didn’t feel judged for my fears and I felt he really tried hard to help me work through everything. I felt I improved quite a bit but still have a way to go and hope I can get him as an instructor again.

See you this weekend!

Tyler
