Hello MLC Team!

It’s back to winter after one day of Spring weather (yesterday). Today was the 2nd of four 5th grade ski and snowboard days – thanks to everyone who came out to make it an amazing time! Today’s group included many kids I know because my own 5th grader was in attendance with my 10th grader (2nd year instructor) teaching that class! So fun! Hope you can join us next Tuesday and Thursday for the final two 5th grade ski and snowboard trips of the 2021-22 season! With so many of our full time instructors moving onto their summer seasonal gigs, we could really use the support of our part time team that has availability mid-week. If you can join us – even just for the morning on Tuesday or Thursday – that’d be awesome!

Two More 5th Grade Ski & Snowboard Days – Next Tuesday and Thursday
If you still need to pick up some shifts to fulfill your commitment the following days would be great: April 12th and April 14th. We invite all Hood River County 5th graders (and some 3rd and 4th graders from the smaller schools) to join us for a morning ski and snowboard lessons with their school class. Mt. Hood Meadows donates these lessons, rentals and lift access – the schools provide the bus transportation. It’s a super fun time so please join us by signing up to work the last two days. Add them to your schedule by clicking this link: https://mhm.snowproportal.com/schedule-change-requests or replying all to this email and we’ll add you to the schedule – please specific the dates you can join us!

Safety Tips – Wear Sunscreen – Mandatory!

Keely Brownback, who is an instructor and nurse in the mountain medical clinic, let me know today that a 9 or 10 year old child who was in one of our lessons on Thursday was seen at the Providence Medical Clinic with 3rd degree sunburns on their face and sunburned retinas. Yes! This is a real concern and can result in life long damage. Please make sure that all kids have sunscreen on their faces (and any skin exposed to the elements) and eye protection – either sunglasses or goggles. No kids should be in our lessons without both of these critical items on – every time!

Chris Kastner Well Wishes

Let’s send Chris some love!  Compose some words of inspiration and/or jot down a memory that will bring him a smile.  Put them in a card and bring it to Evoke Winery from 6-8pm Monday in Hood River.  Can’t make the event? Then just send an email with your words of encouragement to Roxanne McClure at mcclure.hr@gmail.com before noon on Monday, April 11 to be included in the “Care Package.”  Roxanne will include these for you! When the going gets rough or boring, Chris will have a note from a member of his Mountain Family to encourage him and his caregivers. Thank you Roxanne for your help in getting Chris messages from us! You can be part of his recovery team!

Newly Accredited and Certified Instructors –So Many!!

There have been a ton of people “leveling up” over the last few weeks. I’m sure I’m missing some because there are so many, but here is a note from Kelly Howle, your Training Supervisor on (some of) the latest passes:  Jenn Wass, Marissa Ng, Immo Singleton, Troy Hall and Ryan Coussens just attainted their Children’s Specialist 2. Elliot Miller and Andrew Goetting just got their Senior Specialist 1. Tyler Dudden and Ying Liu got their Level I Telemark (earlier this season – sorry we missed you) and Walt Burns recently got his Cross Country 1. Alex Danilevsky, Scott Hege, Cole Robinson and Sonja Kolstoe attained their Alpine Level II. Kaitlin Brotemarkle and Matt Chandler attained their Snowboard Level III. Brian Campbell and Chase Miskowicz are still waiting on their Snowboard Level II results – fingers crossed.
