After many years of being part of the management team of the Meadows Learning Center, it is time for me to step down from my position as manager.
Mount Hood Meadows has always played an important role in my life. I started skiing here in grade school when my father got a seasonal job working with lift operations at night. Much later in life, my family learned how to ski and snowboard on this mountain.
I have worked continuously at Meadows for the last 17 seasons, first as an instructor, then as a supervisor and finally as the Manager of the Ski and Snowboard School. I have seen many changes in personnel, processes, and perspectives over those 17 years. Some changes were easily welcomed while others felt more like storms to be weathered. But through it all, ski school has always endured, and I know we are all better people because of it.
The friendships that I have developed with so many of you have become some of the most important relationships in my life. We have learned much from each other; you have enriched my life and I hope that I have done the same for you these past many years.
I will begin my transition out of my position over the coming weeks, spending less time in my office and hopefully more time on the slopes.
I don’t know what the future will bring, but I am sure I will see all of you again soon; maybe at a lesson line-up or at a table surrounded with kids, wearing a uniform and an instructor name badge.
Thank you all for the many memories that I will always cherish.
Sincerely,
Mark Fischer
