Hello MLC Instructors,
I’m sure most of you have heard about the stroke that Chris Kastner suffered while kite boarding in Baja in late Fall 2021, just prior to the season kicking off. Those of you who are new to Mt. Hood Meadows and the Meadows Learning Center – well, Chris is my friend – and my boss! He started at Mt. Hood Meadows in 1987 back when Steve Bratt was the Director of Skiing. Chris then spent some in Aspen, Colorado and as the Snow Sports School Director at Crystal Mountain, Washington for several seasons, before returning to our mountain home in the mid-2000’s when he took on the Snow Sports Services Director position and most recently Resort Services Director.
Chris is also a two-term, former PSIA National Alpine Team Member, former PSIA-NW Certification Vice President and former Alpine Examiner. Chris is also a PSIA-NW Life Time Membership Award recipient – this award recognizes someone who has been a PSIA member for a minimum of 30 years and has demonstrated a lifetime of dedicated service to PSIA-AASI, PSIA-NW and snowsports education. His dedication to the snow sports industry has been immense and we are so looking forward to Chris be back skiing with us when the time comes.
That said, Chris has a long road to recovery ahead of him, and our community has been so supportive and generous thus far.
For those of you who would like to show some first time, on-going or additional support to Chris, Deb, Ashley and family, please join on Monday from 6-8 PM at the new Evoke Tasting Room in Hood River. Evoke has agreed to donate a sizeable portion of the proceeds from the evening’s purchases to assist with the myriad of expenses that have been incurred. Apparently there may be some additional ways to offer support – details to follow. The plan is also to have some entertainment courtesy of local legend Cale Rice and maybe more. You can even try out some of fellow employee Alaina’s wine.
Where:
Evoke Winery
708 Oak St, Hood River, OR 97031
When:
6-8PM on Monday April 11, 2022
Feel free to pass this invitation onto anyone who knows Chris, Deb and/or Ashley. The more the merrier.
Thanks and hope to see you Monday at Evoke in Hood River.
