Movement analysis is an essential part of the instruction world. For many of us, it’s also the best way to improve our riding (with followed-up practice of course). Watch real-life riders (and sometime pro riders) onscreen and learn how to isolate movements to better understand different riding patterns.

Technical knowledge is a key part of AASI exams and candidates will be assessed on how well they understand the board-snow interaction and the affective movements of the body.

Once a rider’s image is dissected (Observation), we can assess the effectiveness (Evaluation), and potentially offer solutions to problems through new drills or practice (Prescription).

Video is collected from riders each week/weekend. This could include yourself, your peers, or random guests from the resort. Viewers will be expected to watch respectfully (cheers not jeers please!) and will be expected to participate in collaborative group discussion and possibly activities.

Body movements include 1) Flexion/Extension and 2) Rotation of joints, muscles, and tendons/ligaments (working together, isolated, or against). You will learn to analyze those movements using a variety of approaches including “top-down”, “board-up”, and “core-out”.

You will learn how the different movements affect the snowboard’s performances: Twist, Tilt, Pressure, Pivot (and maybe geek out on the “Six Fundamentals”).

Other nights, you may focus on Turn Descriptors and/or the different points where Timing/Intensity/Duration (and sometimes Rate and Direction) of the rider’s movements should/could be applied.

Grab a glass of whatever and dive deep into the world of MA with your trainer and peers.
