Event Type

This clinic focuses on teaching first-time snowboard lessons using engaging, purposeful games. Instructors will learn how to select and adapt games that support MLC Snowboard First-Time Experience goals while keeping students motivated, comfortable, and progressing.

Games may include Mirror Game, Red Light–Green Light, Zombie Walk, Pre-Flight Checklist, Squish the Eggs, Pass the Snowball, Relay Races, Don’t Step on the Gorilla, High-Five the Dragon, Be the Controller, and Penguin Races. Participants will also explore how to adapt student behaviors—such as eating snow—into positive teaching moments.

Instructors will learn to identify games that align with first-time experience goals, are board- and body-performance specific, and appropriately apply CAP model characteristics to meet individual student developmental needs. There will be opportunities to share games instructors have used successfully and discuss how those games supported student progression.

Game demonstrations will be refined to ensure accurate visuals for students. Throughout the clinic, movement analysis will be used to connect cause (body movements) and effect (board performance), helping instructors clearly communicate and implement effective change.
