- control pressure through the relationship of the center of mass to the base of support to direct pressure along the length of the ski
- control pressure from foot to foot to direct pressure toward the outside ski
- regulate the magnitude of pressure through ski snow interaction
- control the rotation (turning, pivoting, steering) of the skis separate from the upper body
- control edge angles through a combination of inclination and angulation
