Meadows Learning Center instructors are issued the following:
- Green outer parka
- Black outer pants
- Green inner softshell
- Name tags for outer and inner parka/softshell
- You must also wear a Helmet; you may wear your own helmet or borrow one from us
Once you are trained to work in another indoor capacity like as a Point of Sale operator or a Rental Center technician, then you may also check out the following:
- Blue flannel shirt
- Name tag for flannel shirt
Blue flannel shirts are NOT to be worn outside as a uniform piece when teaching.
Instructors teaching lessons should be in a GREEN outer parka or soft shell uniform pieces. It is important that you are in your green uniform as you are more visible as an instructor when out on the hill.
On unusually warm days during the springtime instructors may wear a personal Hawaiian shirt WITH a name tag as an alternate to the green parka – this is an exception to the rule.
The Mt. Hood Meadows official Spring T-shirt WITH a name tag as an official uniform is also acceptable in place of the Hawaiian shirt.
Instructors that work the SnoBlaster program may wear the official SnoBlaster T-Shirt, Hawaiian shirt or Meadows Spring T-shirt WITH a name tag while working indoors or outside teaching.
If you prefer to wear your own black pants you may do so long as they are clean, tidy and fit correctly. The company is not responsible for damage to your personal black pants when working; wearing your own pants is a courtesy option to you.
**Employees of Mt Hood Meadows WILL NOT take their Uniform home without prior approval from a Manager
When do I wear my uniform?
Anytime you are working you must be in uniform this includes teaching lessons, attending a paid training or paid clinic, helping with setup or break down, helping with Lift Operations maze, helping fit guests in the Rental Center boot room, running a point of sales in Guest Services, etc.
Wearing your uniform is also particularly important when working in the Children’s Learning Center in the Sahale Lodge OR the Program Lesson Room in the South Lodge.
Instructors MUST be in uniform at all times when working with minors and in a secure area – like in the Children’s Learning Center, Day Care, Program Lesson Room during lessons, or when escorting children to and from restrooms in non-secure areas.
When and where should I NOT wear my uniform?
- When not on duty doing official work unless on break in a Team Member break area
- On an unscheduled day when you’re free skiing / free riding
- While attending a voluntary training or clinic
- In the bar or restaurant after work – if you are on personal time after work, then you should not be in ANY uniform piece (pants included)
- On ride breaks between lessons
- You may wear your uniform pants on ride breaks on a scheduled day, however, do not wear your uniform pants (or other uniform pieces) on non-scheduled days.
- You may wear a “cover coat” that fully covers your green uniform coat while on a ride break on a scheduled day.
- You are allowed to take your uniform home this season due to Covid precautions only, but please be aware, you are not to wear any part of your uniform (including pants) anywhere but to, from, and during work.
- Forgetting or loosing uniform pieces at home is not an excuse to “check out” another uniform; ideally just don’t take your uniform home if at all possible
- Do not smoke or be around smoke while wearing your uniform. The uniform will absorb smells and these odors are very difficult to remove.
- If you are a smoker and smoke on your way to or from the mountain in your car, then DO NOT take your uniform home with you.
How do I get my uniform cleaned?
Drop it off at the Uniform Department on your “Friday” for laundering. It can take up to 48 hours to have your uniform cleaned. On your Monday, go to the Uniform Department and retrieve your uniform.
Do NOT take any uniform piece home to wash. There are special procedures for washing different uniform pieces.
Lost or Damaged Uniforms
When the Uniform Department issues a uniform to you, it is your responsibility to take care of it. Do not leave your uniform unattended for any length of time. Lost uniform pieces are expensive. If you lose or damage your uniform, this may affect your eligibility to be rehired or you may be held financially responsible for replacing lost (or damaged pieces depending on circumstances).
