Hello MLC Instructors!
If you’re not here today, you’re missing out! This view never gets old – that’s sunrise at 7:10am! The weather is amazing. Heather is open, Vista is open. Seymour made an appearance. The SnoBlaster and Trail Blazer coaches dealt with an equipment mix up with a great problem solving attitude. Peter Gavinski got to be a Freeride Team substitute coach in the morning. Brian Beardsley delivered the new “lesson only” signs to the bottom of Vista, HRM, Star and Easy Rider. The Shooting Star lift operator saved a SnoBlaster hanger. Devin Gustafson – remember him from my last email – got $40 tip. I got to help out Chareena’s “Novice Little” class – all before 11:45am today – the day is still young for more amazing things to happen! I’ll keep you posted …
Bluebird Monday & Tuesday – Need Extra Help
We are looking fairly well staffed for Monday, but could use 1 to 2 more Alpine instructors and 2 to 3 more Snowboard instructors on Monday and especially Tuesday this week. Tuesdays in general we are short on Snowboard Coaches. If you can rearrange your schedule – full timers or part timers – to come on Mondays and/or Tuesdays, please “reply all” to this email.
Our Phenomenal Failure – Update
I was able to connect with this family and all is well. The kids were in lessons yesterday and had a great time! What I appreciate most is the number of responses, both via email and in person, I received from many you varying from wanting to donate your time to make these guests have an amazing experience, to buying them lunch in the Alpenstube after their lessons, to reflection on the importance of our role in enriching the lives of our guests. Eric Stasak sent me an amazing reply that I’d like to share an excerpt from with you all:
I know that in my case it is my heart attitude that I need to focus on –
• am I really committed to serving and working my scheduled day at the ski school, or am I…?
• am I really willing to work and do what I am [asked], submitting with a good attitude to my [team]?
• is my attitude helping me solve guest / operations problems creatively and joyfully, bringing real life and quality to MHM, or am I simply operating under the letter of the operational rules and looking for ways consciously or subconsciously to complain about things and confirm my negative bias…?
What I appreciate about his reply is his reflection on how he is contributing to his and our success and his own wellness with regard to the commitment he has made to MHM, his fellow instructor team mates and himself. He is a role model for all of us. If you haven’t met Eric yet, he’s worth knowing!
Instructor Check In Survey – Reminder
We’ve had 11 people use the Instructor Check In survey – it’s been great to hear what’s going well and what we can do to make things better. Like the company check in survey, as the leadership team of the Meadows Learning Center we’d like to know how you’re doing. Please share with us what’s going well, where you might need some help and what we can do to make your instructor life better. Click the link or survey emoji below. Kelcey Hadden-Leggert Joins the MLC Team as the Administrative Supervisor
We are super stoked to announce Kelcey Hadden-Leggert – as she describes her name: “had” “den” “leg” “get” – four words just like they sound – has accepted the position as the Administrative Supervisor. We are excited to have her take on this important role and Jillianne is passing on all the tribal knowledge about the position she possibly can before she starts at Cooper Spur. Kelcey has been a full time instructor with us this season, however prior to joining our team she was the Operations Director at the Northwest Youth Corps, a river guide and videographer for Ohiopyle Trading Post guiding company, was a Sales Lead at REI and is either fluent or conversationally confident in 3 languages – plus she’s a white water kayaker – “Hey boater!” Please help me welcome her into this new role with the Meadows Learning Center supervisor team!
This Week’s Pig Tales
Peter Bexelius: During a private lesson demo… just fell over – $10. Michal Drake: Fell under the HRM lift near the bottom of HRM Face – 4 instructors saw him do it plus he forgot his uniform coat in the SnoBlaster Room! – $10. Kevin Wonnacott: First run with College Program class on … Buttercup – crashed under the chair – $5. John Hackney – I owe the pig! I’ll settle up when I can afford it! Can’t wait to see what that one was!
Have a great rest of your Sunday! I know I will!
Yours in snowsports,
Tyler
