Join the Meadows adaptive team for an introductory training about the role of the Assist/Second on adaptive lessons!
Assist, Second (noun):
- …an MLC instructor that has completed the Rockstar Assist/Second Training and was evaluated to possess satisfactory skills.
- This instructor will assist the lead instructor in the lessons helping to load and unload equipment on chairlifts, help when the lead instructor requests more student stability or help with transfers, help carrying extra equipment, and they will ski defensively with the participant and lead instructor to provide a safe environment. This role can also help in motivating the student and providing a safe lesson. All student skill development will be under the supervision of the lead instructor.
The Rockstar Assist/Second is key to a great lesson, because they:
✓ Understand basic disability awareness
✓ Understand and follow basic safety requirements of the program
✓ Understand basic differences and uses of various pieces of adaptive equipment
✓ Assist with loading chairlift & carrying extra equipment
✓ Learn how to help with assistive devices
✓Follow lead instructor requests and suggestions for the safety, fun, and education of the lesson
