Level 1 Snowboard Part 2: Movement Analysis & Personal Analysis
Level 1 clinics may be completed in any order!
    • Materials to Reference:
    • MA Basics: Observation, Evaluation, Prescription
    • Snowboard Technical Manual
    • L1 MA/Technical Understanding Assessment Form
    • Key Concepts to Review (Blend these into activities, not meant to be read to instructors):
      • MA/TU/PA makes up ⅓ of the L1 exam (4 hours total) – Review format for exam. You can also draw in the snow to demonstrate the flow of the MA/TU/PA portion of the exam.
      • Movement analysis is objective – not good, not bad, what is. Candidates need to be able to perform basic movement analysis, identify a cause and effect chain (body → board or board → snow interaction), and prescribe one change for a rider.
      • Candidates need to be able to identify which phase of turn or ATML movements are happening.
      • Review movement concepts in more depth – flexion, extension, rotation.
      • Review board performance concepts & how fundamentals connect.
      • MA should mostly focus on lower body joints (knees, hips, and ankles) for L1.
      • Review Observation, Evaluation, and Prescription
      • Share with candidates that they will also be assessed on their technical understanding during this portion of the exam.
      • Personal Analysis (PA)- see next page for details. Review that self-awareness and understanding how their bodies move during each riding activity. Review that we want them to reflect on what they are ACTUALLY doing, not the ideal. PA is meant to be objective, just like MA!
