Hello Fellow Snow Pros!

Oregon Spring Break has officially started and we expect to have some busier days this weekend and early next week. Keep in mind when working multi-week program lessons or the 3-day Kids Camp next week that kids are there to have fun! Yes, parents want them to learn something too, but recall the three tenets of snowsports instruction: Safety, Fun, Learning (in that order)!

The other thing I’ve learned about a 3-day, back to back lesson days, is you need to pace yourself and the lesson. If you tell them everything on the first day, what are you going to do for 2 more days? Let the first morning be about getting to know your students, lots of skiing and riding, then since you’ve been assessing where they are and where they need to go, you can then share one (or two) things, and then apply, explore and ski/ride through that one thing for the rest of the first day. Day two, you cover what you learned yesterday and then build upon that. Day three is about mileage and tweaking what they’ve learned on Day 1 and Day 2. Be sure to summarize on Day 3 what they’ve learned and what to practice for the future. That is a recipe for a great 3 day camp! Safety, Fun, Learning (in that order)!

Oh, and be sure to ask your students, ‘What’s fun about skiing or riding?” That will help you shape the lesson content specifically to them all 3 days!

RED First Timer Lanyards
What’s the deal with the red lanyards in the Adult Lesson Meeting Area? Good question! Any guest who purchased a 1-time or 3-time Learn to Ski or Ride Package will get a red lanyard! Oh wow – so what? Well … their lesson voucher, RFID lift ticket (not next to their cell phone) and can be read by the gates while in the lanyard, a 2 hour lesson upgrade coupon, a $5 drink voucher coupon and a $299 “purchase the equipment you are on” coupon will be in the lanyard pouch! No more digging through endless pockets playing Where’s Waldo with the lesson vouchers or RFID tickets, etc. And if they have a red lanyard, that’s a South Side only ticket!

The other awesome thing, is we can easily identify these people both in the rental shop line and as they emerge from the rental shop. This immediately identified them as VIPs – they are really our most important guests as we need them to come back not just 1 more time or 3 more times, but 10 more times this season and next season and forever! What we do as Snow Pros has a big impact on whether they will come back. And that’s where you come in! Rock those first time lessons – they are uber important!

Early Load Clinics
We have the go-ahead for our second ever Early Load Clinic. I will be meeting clinic participants in the SnoBlaster Room at 7:45am booted up and ready to go. You will beed to be in your civilian clothes (not in uniform) to attend this clinic. We need you there at 7:4am to add “early load access” to your passes. If you have not signed up already you have until 10pm tonight to do so! Go here for details:

End of Programs Party

We will be having a Ski & Ride School Party to celebrate the end of Programs, so if are ready to party it up, it will be held Sunday, March 26th from 6-8 pm at Naked Winery 102 2nd Street Hood River, OR 97031. Dave Barringer, one of our alpine trainers is one of the owners of Naked Winery and we are so looking forward to seeing him and YOU at the party Sunday night. We’ll be “sponsoring” your first beverage and they will have special pricing for us on additional beverages. We’ll have some snack food and pizza at the party too! See you then! And, “No, this is not a paid training!"

Paid Clinics this Weekend
There are a few paid clinics this weekend. You can get the details here:

As I have mentioned before, if you attend a PSIA-NW event this can be counted as 4 hours of your mandatory training hours (but you won’t be paid for them). If you have attended voluntary clinics this season, those too may be counted towards your mandatory hours, but those too will not be paid. We encourage you to attend any of the clinics that are “paid trainings” as the agendas are specific and we have a trainer regularly scheduled for these clinics – rather than just showing up which can be hit and miss sometimes. So how do I get credit for the voluntary clinics I attended? Fill out a clinic evaluation form here: https://mhm.snowproportal.com/training/clinic-evaluation-form

PSIA-NW Events

If you are thinking of attending a PSIA-NW Spring Event be sure to check the event calendar here: http://www.psia-nw.org/events/

As I have shared with you before we are offering a PSIA Member School Clinic here at Mt. Hood Meadows on April 22 and 23. If you need an education credit for the season this is a great option for you to attend. It’s $40 for the clinic (payable on the day of the event) and will count toward your education credit. Finally, I am super “proud” of our staff. I’ve seen some amazing lessons being taught, talk in the locker room about the amazing students I had, plus all the great comment we’ve been receiving from the surveys has been inspirational. You guys and gals rock!

See you soon!
