I am excited to announce that we have hired Tyler Barnes as our new Ski & Snowboard School Training Manager. He will officially start the position in October. Many of you may know Tyler from his 23 years of working at MHM in various capacities. We are excited to see the contributions Tyler can make to our Ski & Snowboard School and MHM in general being on board with us full time after contributing so much to our Ski School as a part-time instructor.
A little more info on Tyler below:
Tyler Barnes is a the PSIA-NW Technical Team Assistant Coach, PSIA-NW Alpine Examiner and Mt. Hood Region Representative on the PSIA-NW Board of Directors. He also volunteers, serving as the Communications Vice President for PSIA-NW in charge of the direction of internal and external communications for the not for profit organization, in both print and digital formats. He started teaching skiing as a High School Sophomore some 30 years ago and has taught every season since, with the exception of one season while living in Zermatt, Switzerland.
Tyler started at Mt. Hood Meadows in the summer of 1993 when Mt. Hood Meadows operated The Gorge Cafe in Hood River. He opted to stay on for a “just one winter season” 23 seasons ago. During his time at Mt. Hood Meadows he was a Food & Beverage Manager (2 seasons) working closely with Mark Fellows at the time. Stepping away from F&B, he went back to his passion and taught as a Full Time instructor for 3 seasons and has been an integral part of our training programs, as a part time instructor, since the early 2000’s. He has been a Hood River area resident for more than 20 years where he lives with his wife Traci and three daughters, who all naturally love the mountain!
Tyler knows how to shovel, in fact he washed the North Lodge windows outside one summer, refinished the Alpenstube dance floor (when we had one), sanded the concrete floors in the Schuss eating area among other various involvement at Mt. Hood Meadows.
