Hello MLC Instructors!

Welcome to March! I can’t believe I’m saying that already. It’s been a whirlwind of winter with more guests coming for the “Spring Session”, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to ski, ride and teach through April. I’m sorry I was unable to send this message yesterday but it was one of those days. In this update …

Weekend Lesson Operations Update

Adult Daily lessons has 72 guests pre-booked for Saturday. This is a moderately busy day. Youth Daily Lessons (i.e. the CLC) has 120 lessons pre-booked for Saturday and this is a busy day – there are currently only 47 youth daily lessons for Sunday, but the cutoff for daily lessons is 1pm the day before, so we should see more signups by then. Program Lessons: the Saturday SnoBlaster programs have ended for the season however we do have the Snowboard Outreach Society meeting today and the next 5 Saturdays (excluding Spring break). This is a non-profit group similar to the Chill Foundation. They are meeting in the SnoBlaster room and coral, but they supply their own volunteer coaches; we supply the rental equipment for them, so if you have guests asking where the SOS group is meeting you’ll know where to direct them – thank you! However, on Sundays we start another 4-week SnoBlaster session starting with 37 kids. This is up from a typical year where we have around 20 lessons for Sunday SnoBlasters in March. Chicks Can Rip Clinic and Camp are meeting this weekend opposite Equipment Check off the South Lodge deck. There are around 20 women participating in the session led by an all women instructor team. If you have a guest asking where do the Chicks Can Rip group meet – you’ll know where to direct them – thank you! Private Lessons are looking quite busy on Saturday with 30 lessons booked and around 16 for Sunday – we’ve seen a strong increase in Private Lessons this season with a lot of request privates originating from your amazing work teaching group lessons. Be sure to hand out comments cards and your business cards at the end of the lessons to help generate request private lessons for you and for you to receive feedback (and tips) from the lesson. The Meadows Freeride Team meets both days this weekend with the March 4-week sessions starting today. There is a slopestyle competition for the Freeride Team athletes on Sunday with around 10 or 11 kids participating. We’ve seen the Freeride Team grow over the last several seasons, with the SnoBlaster advanced groups graduating to the Freeride Team. Adaptive Lessons: There is one Adaptive lesson today and a sit ski adult lesson tomorrow – very cool to see this opportunity made available. Instructor Training: Check the clinic calendar and the PSIA-NW website for clinics, exams and specialist trainings coming up. The PSIA-NW website is the best place to be looking for upcoming events as they are being added as clinic leaders and examiners have confirmed they are available. Due to Covid, PSIA-NW is trying to limit examiner travel, and that is in part why these exams and specialist accreditations are taking longer to get on the calendar – see this https://psia-nw.org/events/

Mid-week Pass Package Package – ONLY $299

We are offering a different “Spring Pass” this season due to the popularity of weekends being strong until the end of the season. We are trying to spread out demand and not create an overcrowded resort on the weekends, so we are offering a Mid-week Spring Pass (which was valid on March 1) and a Mid-week Pass Package (also started March 1). What is the Mid-week Pass Package you say? Welll … it is a mid-week pass, unlimited rentals and (3) 2-hour Adult or Youth (7 and up) lessons! Say what? You mean I can ski/ride mid-week and have rentals until the first week of May and get (3) 2-hour lessons for only $299? Yes! This is a great way for you to invite your lesson guests to join us this Spring for only $100 per day (if they only come 3 times). But once they have 3 lessons with you, they’ll be stoked and come to your mountain home many more times, so be sure to mention we have this option. We can upgrade a daily group lessons to a mid-week pass package at the Sahale Sales Desk inside the Sahel Lodge.

Our Covid Protocols

Please continue to be diligent with you following our Covid-19 protocols. Wear a properly fitting face covering in all required areas, watch your distance by staying 6 feet away from all other people including team members and wash your hands often. This last weekend we had a team member who came down from Covid-19 from a family gathering of family members from far and wide. After doing contact tracing of just our team members, this person was in possible close contact of 69 other team members. And yes, there are MLC team members that have been forced to self-quarantine out of an abundance of caution to help reduce the spread of the virus. So even though Hood River county is in a moderate thread of spread, at Mt. Hood Meadows we are still operating at the “High Level” due to the range of guests who come from far and wide to recreate at Mt. Hood Meadows. Please stay diligent!

Lesson Protocol Reminders

Be sure to tune into the morning meeting about lessons reminders regarding riding the lift with the bar down in ALL LESSONS, not allowing other guests to ride with your students and safer stopping area reminders.

Have a great weekend and see you up here!
